HOKA ONE ONE® athletes swept this weekend’s 105-mile Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc race.Caroline Chaverot & Ludovic Pommeret, both of France, each overcame incredible odds to win individual titles at an endurance event widely regarded as the most competitive & demanding trail race in the world. Enjoy the race details below.

UTMB Background: 7500 athletes competing, over 5 races. The main event is the 170km race around Mont Blanc. This race includes 10,000m of climbing through three separate countries (France, Switzerland, and Italy). This year, the athletes ran through the dark, heat, and thunderstorms.

Men’s champion Ludovic Pommeret nearly dropped out at 30km due to stomach sickness. Ludo slipped back to 50th place near midway and then through perseverance made it back to 1st place, winning in (22:00:02). This has never been done before in the history of UTMB. Not only was it the most amazing comeback in the history of UTMB, but it was the first time HOKA’s made it on the podium in this historical race. Moreover, Ludo was our first elite athlete to use HOKAs in major ultras back in 2009.

Women’s champion Caroline Chaverot lead the entire race alone starting from Chamonix, around Mont Blanc, and finishing in Chamonix. This front running aggressive strategy is something that rarely happens in the 170km race. Amazingly, Caroline maintained her lead  throughout and won in a time of (25:15:40).

Magdalena Boulet (USA) was the first American woman to finish, taking 5th overall. This was the first time Magda attempted UTMB, which is an incredible outcome since most Europeans are experienced with the difficult course. She finished in a time of (28:18:05).

Julian Chorier (France) placed 8th overall  after staying in second for most of the race.
